One‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ of the most trending things about the film Dhurandhar is not a spectacular punch or a rousing dialogue, but rather the quiet, chilling presence of Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait. Audiences’ reactions to his first appearance in the film have been so loud that they are talking about the film’s antagonist as the most-discussed element of the movie. Director Aditya Dhar is creating a fictionalised narrative, but the personality is based on a real-life person whose saga is so much more tragic than it can be portrayed on the screen.

Who Is Rehman Dakait?

Rehman Dakait was born as Abdul Rehman in 1976 and was raised in Lyari, a neighborhood of Karachi that was not only poor but also filled with violence. Crime was not something that he would have accidentally happened to; on the contrary, it was in the environment that surrounded him and the history of his family. His father and uncles were drug dealers and extortionists, and they were constantly fighting with different gangs. Killing was their habit, and having already lost something during these times, they died in childhood, and Rehman grew up seeing the world the way it was.

His road to crime was scary, and it started in his youth. Violent events were part of his life when he was a teenager, and in his mid-teens, Rehman was said to have done several killings related to territorial wars. The incident in the mid-1990s in which he murdered his own mother is one of the most horrifying episodes of his life. The police said that he was certain she was informing them as either a helper of the cops or a friend of the rival gangs, and that is why he killed her.

Wishing to be recognized as legit, Rehman at one point changed his image into that of a politician and started the People’s Aman Committee, the organization that helped him unite the worlds of local politics and organized crime. His influence was so great that the police formed a special unit to free Lyari of the criminals. The police crackdown portrayed in Dhurandhar is a work of fiction, but it uses the personality of Sanjay Dutt to tell the story.

Rehman was taken out of power, and his death occurred in 2009. He was gunned down by police in a confrontation that took place near Quetta. Authorities held that he had been involved in many cases of criminal activity, while others questioned the incident and suggested that it was an illegal operation staged by the police. His funeral was attended by many people, which is a sign of the complicated mixture of fear and loyalty that he had inspired among people.
Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and more.
