On Sunday, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, the Hollywood filmmaker and his wife, respectively, were reported to have been found stabbed to death at their LA home, the kind of news that shook the whole entertainment industry. The police have confirmed that the couple’s son, Nick Reine, age 32, has been singled out as a person of interest; however, no formal charges have been filed yet.

The local police received a call on Sunday afternoon regarding the house and immediately proceeded to the site, accompanied by medical staff. There, they found a man and a woman inside the house who had been stabbed to death. After that, the Los Angeles Fire Department made public the identification of the deceased as a 78-year-old and a 68-year-old. Their ages coincided with those of Rob and Michele Reiner.
According to confidential sources, the police detectives working on a case out of the Robbery-Homicide Division were on the scene. It is a unit that is generally directed to the most serious or highly-publicized cases. Officers in charge of the property reportedly removed all unauthorized people for hours and kept an eye on the area during that time, while several of their colleagues were busy performing the on-site work.
An emergency medical team came to the house at about 15:40, and shortly after, the police officers showed up there following what the authorities called an “ambulance death investigation,” a procedure that takes place when the police are informed of the firefighters’ finding of dead people and are invited to intervene. It is said that the couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner who found the dead bodies and then called the police.

Rob and Michele Reiner were a couple for three decades, and they had three kids together: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Besides this, Reiner is also a father to an adopted daughter from his ex-wife, the late filmmaker Penny Marshall. The two lovebirds were out publicly together for the last time this year.
Their son, Nick Reiner, a screenwriter who has worked with his father on the 2015 film Being Charlie, has become the focal point of the media since then. The film was loosely based on Nick’s struggle with drug addiction. In past interviews, Nick had spoken openly about his addiction that started when he was a teenager and had multiple rehab and homeless episodes over the years as a result of his fight.
The police have pointed out that the investigation is far from being concluded and that they are not making any assumptions at this point.
