Vishal​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Jethwa has reacted to the news of Homebound being shortlisted for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. For the unversed, the Hindi-language film is one of the 15 final contenders to be nominated for a potential Oscar at the 98th Academy Awards. The actual nomination announcement will be made on January 22. Among other things, the movie getting DHARMA Productions as a producer, has been catching the eyes of the whole world one festival after another, everywhere it goes. 

Vishal Jethwa Reacts To Homebound Getting Shortlisted For Oscars 

Vishal Jethwa, responding to the news, said the occasion was “too much” and was far beyond what he had ever thought of himself. He mentioned that the progression of a film from the Oscars is so surreal and very humbling. The actor expressed his gratitude for the world’s reception of the movie and credited the entire team effort as the reason for the film’s success.

Vishal Jethwa further talked about a producer role of Karan Johar by recognizing that loading and confidence in the story were the most important factors which led to Homebound reaching the international audience. He went on by saying that he loved and appreciated the director’s style, “Neeraj was so lovely, and just being true to himself really pushed me to go deeper into emotions I had never accessed before as an actor,” In his opinion, production under Ghaywan’s direction was a pivotal moment in his career.

He also seemed to thoroughly enjoy working with Ishaan Khatter and said that their combined hard work and energies in front of the camera not only helped the movie but also made the creative process more rewarding. Jethwa stressed that this achievement is the people who made Homebound with their burning contributions, cast, the crew, and so on.

Homebound, directed and written by Neeraj Ghaywan, is based on a 2020 New York Times article by Basharat Peer, and it stars Vishal Jethwa, Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. It follows the story of two childhood friends whose lives change as they gear up to write India’s national police examination.

The film was shown in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, and it is sounded that it had a very long standing ovation.
