Actor Imran Khan has expressed his disapproval of the widely watched reality show Bigg Boss, hosted by Salman Khan. He considered it a ‘terrible’ kind of show which, for the sake of viewership, ‘gets the participants to emotional and mental extremes’. On a recent podcast with Samdish, the actor mentioned that his own experiences in the Bigg Boss house made him so uncomfortable that he couldn’t help it.
Imran Khan Calls Bigg Boss A Zoo
Imran stated that he has been on the set of the show several times as a guest, and each time, he found the atmosphere very disturbing. In his words, it is a less entertaining show and more of a carefully controlled experiment that keeps a close eye on the behavioral changes of the people when they are put under constant pressure.
Imran said the design of the Bigg Boss house has a lot to do with this, in his view. He spoke about secret corridors along the outside walls of the house with mirrors on the inside. Camera operators and crew members, it is said, are sitting behind these mirrors and watching the contestants closely without being noticed.
A visitor to the house is told to wear dark, colored clothes so that he is not visible; thus, from merely a few feet away, they can watch the participants. Imran compared the situation to animals kept in captivity and said the environment made him think of that. He alleged that the contestants are subjected to stress most of the time by being deprived of comforts, food, and privacy, which leads to an increase in emotional and conflictual reactions. As per his statement, the place is purposely set up to provoke people and make them more reactive.
During the conversation, the host pointed out that Bigg Boss is essentially a social experiment that looks at how ambition and desperation influence human behaviour. Imran concurred and further mentioned that the format appears to be probing how people would go if they lost their dignity and were without necessities.
He implied that hunger, tiredness, and being watched all the time are some of the tools that are employed to generate disputes and get dramatised moments in the show. Imran also said that the conflict on the show is not incidental but is, in fact, deliberately orchestrated. By taking away the basic comforts of the contestants and putting them in aggravating situations, the show is said to have created the conditions in which clashes become unavoidable.
