Dhurandhar, Aditya Dhar‘s film, is soaring at the box office after its release on December 5. The film has been a hit not only with the public but also with the industry voices. Among the most enthusiastic supporters of the film is director Karan Johar, who has once again expressed his liking of the film by referring to it as an emotionally powerful experience of cinema. While attending the launch of critic and author Anupama Chopra’s book Dining With Stars, Karan talked about Dhurandhar.

Karan Johar Again Praises Dhurandhar

Looking back at his experience of watching the film, he said that the film made a profound impression on him as a filmmaker. In fact, he confessed that seeing Dhurandhar made him think twice about his own method of storytelling, especially regarding the scale, music, and visuals.

According to Karan, the most significant aspect of the film was its restraint. He mentioned that the direction did not appear to be flashy or self-indulgent, even though the filmmaking was technically strong. The storytelling, in his opinion, was so natural that the director did not have to single out any frames or show the technique for its own sake. He said that this subdued approach made the story more powerful and engaging.

Karan also pointed out that such experiences are crucial for creative evolution. He said that when a film makes him doubt his own abilities, he takes it as a positive challenge rather than a defeat. Dhurandhar has become one of the most memorable films of the year. He further said that he came into the year admiring Saiyaara and left it being greatly impressed by Dhurandhar, and he also mentioned Lokah as another project.

More Details Karan Johar had previously shared on social media a few days ago that Dhurandhar was a stellar film and that it moved him deeply. Alongside the director and the lead actor, he also congratulated the entire team and called Ranveer’s performance one of his utmost personal favourites. Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Sara Arjun. Following its triumph, the makers have confirmed a sequel, which is going to be out on March 19, 2026, in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
