If ever we had to describe Gaurav Gupta‘s art in a word, we’d call it sculpted! He’s young and creates garments that speak to the modern woman of today. On graduating from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, Gaurav Gupta was immediately called the “Future of Couture” by AltaRoma AltaModa—And there began a career that spoke of all things amazing. He is the man and the brand that creates a world which is future-primitive showcased in each piece he crafts. He seamlessly merges Indian designs with contemporary silhouettes to create iconic styles that will surely leave you mesmerised. Safe to say that Gaurav has delivered and sustained a world that is Indian at its core and boundless in its form.

For India Couture Week, Gaurav Gupta pulled out all the stops to make his line one that we would immediately be able to recall. His designs have always been striking, no doubt but this showcase definitely took it a notch higher. He presented magical realism with this line as he said
“My brand has a strong signature, which is inspired by nature, trees, the abstract shapes of clouds, alternative mythology, dreamscapes, and a future-primitive vibe.”
“It’s like Cinderella wore these clothes to a Surreal ball and we discovered them centuries later.”
Gaurav Gupta used his signature fabrics, chiffons, crepes, dupions, tulles, nets, and lace and developed them into haute couture gowns that were appropriate for ladies attending a red carpet event or even a wedding. The colour palette of dove grey, stone blue, ivy blue, pearl blue, fern green, ivy green and night teal gave each garment such understated class that spoke of enchantment.
Moondust, to Gaurav, also represents the meeting point of the East and the West, where Indian craftsmanship and European techniques meet in a happy embrace to bring about a modern take on haute couture. “My job is to keep newness, fantasy, and magic alive,” he says. “I try to make people believe in design. And I constantly surprise and shock myself.”
Diamond Demons at GQ Fashion Nights in November 2017 was one was a biggie for Mr. Gaurav Gupta as he showcased his first ever menswear line! We’ve known him to master the woman’s body with the kind of silhouettes he crafts but seeing this menswear line, we were assured that there is nothing in the world of couture that Mr. Gaurav Gupta cannot do! Progressive tuxedos, embellished gloves, long-line jackets, and capes too. The designer went all out in making sure his start to menswear was one we’d never forget. To top this all, Shahid Kapoor stepped out in a swanky black suit and shut it down like a pro!
