3rd February: For a modern bride and her bridal trousseau, Payal Singhal’s summer collection is something that could easily become their go-to ensembles. The inspiration was also quite a unique one. Agatha Christie’s murder mystery novel Death on the Nile lends its dark romantic vibe to the whole collection.
To bring out the essence of the dark tale, the colour palette was on that note with shades like midnight blue, emerald and black with breaks of palest rose, ivory and sky blue. The silhouettes explored the ‘30s allure but still had a modern appeal with a variety of beaded kaftans and jackets, low crotch dhotis and camisoles.
The Art Deco influence along with floral motifs took over the outfits in the form of metallic embroidery and silver and gold mukaish and pitta work. Modern elements such as statement prints, leather appliqués and fringe details added to the elegance.
Diana Penty made a stellar appearance as the showstopper for the show in a billowy, pale rose mukaish kaftan tunic with a tulle skirt that has pita and zardari work. She portrayed the ‘30s beauty along with the modern-day vibe effortlessly.
Payal Singhal managed to bring the essence of the ‘30s and make it relevant for the bride of the 21st century with her ‘Lady M’ collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer Resort 2017.
