The Delhi High Court has finished the pleadings in the well-known familial inheritance conflict of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur‘s personal estate, which is roughly estimated to be worth close to 30,000 crore. The court has kept its decision in an interim application that can, to a large extent, determine the future of the case pending. With the civil case, Justice Jyoti Singh said that all the oral arguments had been done, and the final written submissions from both parties had been formally recorded. The court explicitly prohibits any further filing of documents or submission of arguments before the judgment on the interim relief application is pronounced.

Sunjay Kapur Inheritance Case Proceedings Are Over

The legal case was raised after the unexpected passing of Sunjay Kapur in June of this year. Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapur, the children of Sunjay Kapur and actor Karisma Kapoor, took the matter to the court, asking for their father’s property share. They have challenged a will’s authenticity, which supposedly leaves the whole fortune to Sunjay’s wife at the time of his death, Priya Sachdev Kapur.

The brothers and sisters have questioned the validity of the will with a claim that it might not be their father’s signature, and pointed to the alleged irregularities in the document. They also filed a motion to prevent Mrs. Priya from selling or transferring any part of the estate until the issue is settled.

Rani Kapur, the mother of Sunjay Kapur, has also filed a petition against the will. She says that she was not aware of the will during her son’s lifetime and that it is improbable that her son would have left out both his children and his mother in the distribution of his personal assets.

On the trial, the lawyer of Priya Sachdev Kapur rebutted the charges levied against them. Her lawyer told the court that they had already submitted a full disclosure of Sunjay’s assets along with the supporting documents. The court disregarded the allegations of hidden wealth and luxury assets as an attempt to mislead or as being based on inaccurate sources.

Moreover, the defence claimed that the corporate decisions made after Sunjay’s death were a result of the communications they received from Rani Kapur. However, this statement was challenged later. The reliability and the organization of the contested Will were also protected by pointing out that it was a standard legal document similar to the ones already filed in the court.

The attorneys for Sunjay and Karisma’s children emphasized the features of the will that, in their opinion, appeared to be fraudulent, and thus, they requested the court to stop any operations with the estate until it is clear.

The judges of the Delhi High Court are assessing their verdict on the temporary injunction.
