Richard Bona sang everyone into a melodic high (especially his Bona-fied fans) at Blue Frog for his album launch – Ten Shades of Blue, presented by Carslberg last week. I don’t think I even have the words to describe it, but luckily his music really just speaks volumes for itself . So I took footage (lots of it) instead. Also +10 for the fact that he also a super fun performer and as Srila Chatterjee (part owner of Blue Frog) so accurately described him, “he’s an angel!” see for yourself!
P.S. I continue to love you Blue Frog, you’ve painted my evenings every shade of happy with the acts I’ve seen! Read more…

MissMalini’s Bollywood Buzz: Kash’s anti-Rakhi lip-service!

Kashmeera Shah and Rakhi Sawant

Kashmeera Shah and Rakhi Sawant

desiAh item girls! Never a dull moment when they’re around. Small-time actress/wannabe celebrity Kashmeera Shah continues to do what she does best; bitch up a storm! The best bit is she made the leap from defending her own suspiciously swollen lips to dissing Rakhi Sawant all in one breath. Brilliant, can’t wait for the comeback, let the cat-fight commence! So just to fill you in, Kash was spotted recently with severely pouty lips at a Baz Luhrmann event at a hotel in Mumbai. She of course claims, “That is because I was kissing Krushna (her beau/Govinda’s nephew) in the car earlier!” before adding that she would never go under the knife. “I am terrified of needles. I will never ever do botox either. Moreover if I resort to plastic surgery, what would be the difference between Rakhi Sawant and me? Everything of mine is natural while in Rakhi’s case, except for her armpits, it has all been with the help of plastic surgery!” Meowzer.

Psst! Kashmeera and Rakhi went from BFFs to “die bitch die!” during their confinement in the Bigg Boss house together last season. Read more…

Black Horse and the Cherry Tree

Kala Ghoda Festival

Kala Ghoda Festival

Heads up! Don’t miss the Kala Ghoda Art Festival starting 6th February 2010 to 14th February 2010, their schedule is up here and the best part is its free. I went last year too and loved it, check out my blog from this time last year. Gotta love Bombay man, gotta love Bombay :)
So you know know Kala Ghoda means “Black Horse” in Hindi (hence the title of my post) but did you know KT Tunstall’s song by that name is an amalgamation of loops from her own live performances which she plays back so she can layer more on top of it? (Tech junkies: Tunstall uses an AKAI E2 headrush loop pedal to do this.) It is not an easy thing to do live, although many performers use loops in the studio, the “woo-hoo” backups are indeed KT. But why am I telling you this? Read more…

MissMalini: Sand Still.

Kashid beach

Kashid beach

Its been a while since I blogged a random thought, so here it is! I like to write my name in the sand. I don’t know when it started or what it means but I get a real kick out of it. (I never really got into the whole leaving footprints in the sand as much though.) I’m not quite sure where I’m going with this so… that’s all I have to say about that.
P.S. Maybe I thought of it because the entire weekend in Goa, when I was was in (very) high spirits dancing on the beach I kept saying, “all you need in life is the sand under your feet and stars above your head!” Oh dear.

Pirate Radio with Luke Kenny!

Luke Kenny

Luke Kenny

bones

So I recently had Luke Kenny come host pirate radio with me on 94.3 Radio One and he was a pure delight! Of course he knows his music big time plus he’s also a really nice guy, so zero down-side! I do have to confess though that the powers that be have clamped down on my free reign to play anything and ask that I stick to the popular stuff, so if you’re missing the random never-heard-that-before song you’ll have to come on over to my blip.fm channel and I promise to keep digging up little known wonders for ya, deal? For now check out Luke’s selection from the 600 odd approved songs in my database, I think he really picked the cream of the crop! He’s a pro after all :) check out his playlist! Read more…

Sometimes my days just blur into each other and I find myself falling behind on keeping you up-to-date, my bad :( and that’s when I wish I could write a mental blog and post it via ESPN or something (lol get it, get it?!) Anyhoo, here’s some footage from a colorful night I had at Escobar (in my new Shantanu & Nikhil dress that I love, if you please) and where I spotted a motley crew of celebrities (old and new) doing what they usually do! And um… dude in the clingy-transparent-shoe-lace-top, I’m just gonna go ahead and call you out on that, WTF?! Read more…
