Tarun Tahiliani “If Shilpa (Shetty) wasn’t out of town, I may have asked her to be the show-stopper. But this time, I wanted the clothes to speak for themselves. I want each garment to be a show-stopper.”
With fifty-five models and no Bollywood show-stopper… that’s how designer Tarun Tahiliani brought the bridal week to a close in Mumbai on Tuesday night.
In fact, there was a time when the likes of Simi Garewal, Shobhaa De and so many other big-time celebrities would grace the front row. But this time, there were no note-worthy faces. Tarun, (or TT – as he is known in fashion circles), truly let the fabulous garments speak for themselves without allowing them to be over-shadowed by the celebrity circus.
The collection was called Artisanal and was displayed against a specially erected backdrop of arches and spires of a Byzantine-style Cathedral. Tarun explored structured drapes, exquisitely cut silhouettes and Indian hand-embroidery work with a touch of western layering. There was also a good selection of men’s wear which included sherwani’s, jodhpurs, kurtas and turbans for the men to choose from.
The show ended with model Nethra Raghuraman walking down the 90 foot ramp in a lehenga encrusted with crystals in a leaf design, teamed with a kurti and a glittering dupatta.
