To coincide with the opening of it’s 5th store in India and 3rd in Delhi, famed Italian luxury brand Gucci is bringing down some of archival pieces from the Flora World which includes their ready to wear, accessories, sketches and porcelain items. So how exactly did the Flora collection come about? It’s an interesting tale with royalty thrown in.

Back in 1966 Princess Grace [Kelly] visited Gucci’s Via Monte Napoleone store, hoping to pay a visit to Rodolfo Gucci’s wife Alessandra who was an actress. Rodolfo requested her to  take a gift and Princess Grace asked for a scarf with a floral design. Unfortunately, Rodolfo didn’t have any so he asked his friend and artist Vittorio Accornero to produce a floral scarf. Accornero came up a with an exquisite pattern – featuring 43 varieties of flowers & plants and 9 kinds of insects, which was quickly christened Flora.

Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini revived this iconic print in her 2005 collection and subsequently brought out the Flora perfume and range of watches and sunglasses.
