When I met Payal Khandwala at her flagship store launch, I was excited for her. As a designer and an individual, she’s got a unique sense of style that comes naturally to her. So, I had to ask her to open up the doors to her closet, just for us! What treasures could she be hiding? Well, you’re about to find out!
Her Can’t Do Without Piece…
Payal picked this gorgeous neck-piece as her can’t do without piece. (As seen in a picture below from her store opening) She loves this piece and wears it often.
Her Go-to Look
As candid and funny as she is, Payal’s personal style is a direct reflection of her personality. She likes clothes that are free and easy. Her go-to look consists of blocks of colours put together in a way that are comfortable and fun!
Her Vanity-Insanity piece
Every girl has a few moments of vanity-insanity. I asked Payal for one and she pulled out these Jimmy Choos. She bought them in a moment of lust and later found out that the heels were just too high for comfort. For now, they rest in her closet. But I know it for a fact that a girl can’t stay clear of a pair like this for too long. Will she ever wear them? I say, “Hell yeah!”
Her Old Gem
We all have that one, sometimes two, wardrobe gems that we can never say goodbye to. For Payal, this leather waist-pocket belt is that piece. It’s old and almost falling apart, but she loves it too much to part with it.
Her Fave Piece by Another Designer
I pushed Payal to pull out something by another designer in her wardrobe that she adores. And she dug out these beautiful Sabyasachi pants! Remember them for one of his older collections?
Her Last Purchase
Recently for a festival, where – as tradition – one must buy gold in any form. Payal picked these earrings from Amrapali. They’re gold plated and simply stunning. I was very tempted to sneak them away! Not sure, what I would do with them, but as a stylist, I’m sure I could use them in fun ways. *Wink*
Her Never Worn Before Piece
Payal showed me this crafty Pankaj & Nidhi jacket as her ‘never-worn-before’ piece of clothing. We’re huge fans of Pankaj & Nidhi at Team MissMalini and we’re glad to know that Payal shares our enthusiasm. Now we wonder, where will she wear this gorgeous piece of work? Payal, do tell!
Her Statement Piece
This piece blew my mind away. I love rustic, bold accessories and Payal showed me this fab find from New York. This is a neck-piece and it isn’t as heavy as it looks! In fact, you can choose to detach the rings to pick the size you wish to rock. Pretty cool huh?!
Her Love-To-Talk-About Piece
Clearly, Payal has mad love and respect for Issey Miyaki. I don’t even blame her. Calling the man a great designer would be an understatement. He is a genius who, in Payal’s words, ‘engineers’ garments to create magic. She flaunted these two pieces by him and I once again felt my hands itching to grab them.
