I found this photo (which looks like a picture from a children’s book) circulating on the Internet since last night and I really don’t know what to say anymore. If this is fake then the joke isn’t funny and if this is real then children will learn that most Indians are ugly. Not only are such pictorial representations bad for a kid’s self-esteem (who ‘god forbid‘ has brown skin and black hair), such things are the main causes of casual racism which is rampant in India.
Moral of the story: Kids (and their parents), blonde hair and white skin does NOT make you beautiful, brown skin and black hair does NOT make you ugly. I’m not saying beauty comes from within and all (maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t – it’s all about the eyes of the beholder, isn’t it?). But feeding such information is one of the worst things you can do to your children.
