Being part of a biopic is every actor’s dream. To recreate the persona of another living being onscreen proves that one is capable of playing complex characters and the latest to join the bandwagon is none other than Sonakshi Sinha. She’s bagged her first Bollywood biopic and it sounds super interesting already because Sona will be playing underworld don Dawood Ibrahim‘s sister Haseena Parkar in a biopic about her life.
Dawood has 12 siblings and he was closest to Haseena who passed away last year. Her fascinating life is now being made into a film called Haseena – The Queen Of Mumbai, and Apoorva Lakhia will be directing it. Interestingly, Rani Mukerji was going to play this role earlier, but evidently that didn’t work out. We still don’t know who’d be playing Dawood yet, but it needs to be a powerful actor. Also, while Sonakshi has shed a lot of kilos since she joined the industry, she might have to gain a lot of weight back to look the part, no?

It’s a great script, a powerful role, a very intriguing story and an opportunity to play a character who is the polar opposite of me. I have always wanted to be a part of a biopic and this is the perfect one. It’s going to be extremely challenging for me and I am looking forward to it.

Haseena aapa was a very complex personality. I have just picked up the threads of her journey and knitted together the tapestry of her life. I was approached by Sameer Antulay with the idea and Mubina Rattonsey (producer), Sonakshi and I are all set to bring her story alive.
This already feels like a milestone in Sonakshi’s career. Are you excited?
