Cannes Update

:

Rani Mukerji’s dad is unwell so she won’t make the Cannes this year. Let’s hope we can see Rani sizzle in the next edition of the Festival de Cannes.

You remember how we told you about Saif Ali Khan walking the Cannes red carpet for Chivas Regal today at the opening ceremony. Now, the latest to join the Bollywood Cannes brigade is Rani Mukerji who has also been invited by Chivas Regal to walk the prestigious haloed carpet on the 18th of May. The global luxury brand feels that Rani is an extremely versatile and charismatic celebrity. Chivas chose Rani as they believe she would make the ideal ambassador for their ‘Live with Chivalry’ philosophy. We are hoping that this Bengali beauty manages to look stunning in a traditional avatar unlike Rohit Bal’s saree for Deepika Padukone at Cannes last year which did not flatter her curves but seemed like a safe option.

Here’s the buzz on Rani’s look and styling for the Cannes; Rani’s spokesperson informed the media that designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee who styled Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s look for Cannes last year will be working on her look for the event. (He’s one of our MissMalini Fashion Awards leaders too, did you vote?)
MissMalini says: I’m sure her style-twin Vidya Balan would approve!

She will be walking the carpet alongside dear friend, Karan Johar. Other Indian celebrities on the red carpet this year include Ronnie Screwvala, Sonam Kapoor, Minnisha Lamba, Mallika Sherawat and Freida Pinto, apart from the Cannes-regular Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan who will announce her film Heroine directed by Madhur Bhandarkar.  We’re going to bring you all the Cannes action as it happens. So, here’s wishing that our Bollywood babes don’t mess with the fashion police and manage to leave a lasting impression at Cannes this year!
