There Is A New Label In Town!

Sharadiya Dasgupta

It was an evening of earthy, dewy-fresh fashion at the launch of Divya Mohta‘s new print label named Tambourine at Aza. Divya’s penchant for prints and careful eye for details combine to give us rich motifs and patterns from all over the country. The three broad themes of this showcase were Ikat, Chintz and Leheria.

Besides the usual suspects like tube tops (teamed with a pair of short shorts would exude boho chic and would be ideal for a relaxed day out), dresses in varying silhouettes (just right for a leisurely Sunday brunch), men’s shirts (a welcome relief from the staid, solid-coloured shirts that our men seem to be forever stuck in), boxers (very fun) and dupattas (that would dress up even the most dull salwar kurta), the highlight were the sarees. They were understated, traditional yet sexy. Sexy not in a on-your-face, OTT, loud-velvety way but in a languorous, something-left-to-the-imagination way. The whole collection evoked a very Indian summer evening feel.

The launch party was hosted by the designer and Dr Alka Nishar of AZA. There was an array of wines from Turning Point and some fine chocolates from Leonidas.

Mehr Rampal & Divya Mohta

We saw Narendra Kumar in a very playful mood and the gorgeous Mehr Rampal in a printed, maxi gown.

We met designer Arjun Khanna (looking very laid back-dapper  in his distressed denim and shirt) and the lovely Anaita Shroff Adajania (although she tried being modest and told that she was looking shabby because she had come straight from a shoot…like that’s ever possible!) and they both complimented the designs for their uniqueness and novelty.

So if you like to play with prints and would want a touch of the bohemian and the retro in your wardrobe, Tambourine is your destination.
