"Let There Be Some Unpredictability" - Amit Trivedi Talks About His Upcoming Performance At SulaFest!

Shreemi Verma , 31 Jan 2018

The 11th Edition of SulaFest is around the corner and the line-up is insane! Headlined by one of the most popular singer and music director in India – Amit Trivedi, the weekend extravaganza will also have performances by artists like Parov Stelar, Crystal Fighters, THE BEAT Feat. RANKING ROGER, Gypsy Hill, GRAIN and Bauchklang. Sounds amazing doesn’t it?

So with 2 days remaining for the Sula weekend to commence, we asked Amit Trivedi some questions about his act, the artists he’s looking forward to seeing at the Fest and upcoming work –

Hi Amit, you’ve performed at a few music festivals before (I’ve been a part of the enthralled crowd a couple of times), what’s the best part about it?

It’s an absolutely different experience from composing music in a studio. It’s a festival and it’s about making people happy. There’s so much to explore and a variety of music to listen to, you can choose your favorite artists and enjoy their performances. You can eat and drink and be with your friends, having a ball of a time. It just makes you very very happy and this happiness is something that we all need at the end of the day in our lives.

Secret Superstar was one of the standout albums last year, which was the toughest track to compose and how did you find the voice that would suit the actress so perfectly?

Secret Superstar, it dealt with a 14 year old singer and songwriter who is frustrated with her home life because of her dad being violent and the domestic abuse in the film. I have to get into her head and think from her point of view. The music kind of takes a back-seat and the sound is basic and simple melodies. The whole story deals with this issue. The film demands that. I try to keep it to what my film demands. Meghna Mishra (the voice behind Zaira Wasim‘s character). She’s just a 16 year old girl who is absolutely fantastic. I have a feeling that she’ll fly. Keep an eye on her.

What are you looking forward to the most at Sula fest?

This is my first time. I’ve heard a lot of amazing things about SulaFest. The energy, the crowd and the over-all vibe of the festival. Especially with the international line-up. I want to come and see everything! If time permits of course, I’d love to come on the 3rd and see the entire thing. And of course, my set is also what I’m most excited about.

Red, white or rose? Which wine will be your poison for the night?

Who are the other artists from the SulaFest line up you want to watch?

Parov Stellar and Bauchklang

How easy/difficult was it to work with Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar for Pad Man?

Nothing at all. It was just R. Balki sir’s vision, he narrated the entire script. There were song sequences already mentioned and he had a very clear vision about what kind of songs he wants. All the songs are mostly situational, since they’re an integral part of the story-telling. Rather than being just hit songs or party songs, they remain true to the story and the narrative. It was all Balki sir and we just followed his vision.

Should fans prepare themselves to do the ‘London Thumak da’ hook-step or are you going to play something completely different?

I have only 60 minutes and I have to figure out how much I can do in that. It’s a surprise, let there be some unpredictability. Even I don’t know!

SulaFest is happening at Sula Vineyards, Nasik on 3rd and 4th February. Amit will be performing on 4th, so your Sunday is pretty sorted.

Here’s the entire line-up –
