The LaLit Suri Hospitality Group has been paving the way for LGBTQIA community for a while now. They have been on the forefront of the discussion and fight for equal rights as well. The Executive Director, Keshav Suri has been very vocal about pressing issues and various discussions that pertain to the community and their fight for equality. In yet another step towards inclusivity, The LaLit, New Delhi is hosting an event on July 1, 2018, to help create awareness about mental health care for the community.
The LaLit has collaborated with Indian Psychiatric Society and Healthcare Professionals for Queer India (HPQI), to help talk about mental health and other pressing issues about the LGBTQIA community. With this event, The LaLit hopes to not only raise awareness but also to educate the masses. Dealing with patients from the community is actually a really sensitive matter and only by creating awareness on a large scale can the stigma be broken.
In the past, the group has also aggressively negotiated with insurance companies to include the LGBTQIA member and their partners under its mediclaim policy being offered to all the employees of the company. They can also be credited with opening up the drag scene in India with many performances from international entertainers, as well as Indian ones, at Kitty Su. Needless to say, they are paving the way forward and intend to keep on doing so for the foreseeable future.
While talking about the event, Executive Director Mr Keshav Suri said;
I am happy to collaborate with HPQI for an important cause, such as this and glad that Dr. Prasad has taken the initiative to educate us all on this crucial subject. Over the years, I have realised that mental health care is non-existent for LGBTQI people in this country. It is yet another of the initiatives from our #PureLove Campaign and we want to tell people we are here to support them and spread the message of love.
