Rani Mukerji had delivered an outstanding performance as the fearless cop – Shivani Shivaji Roy – in the thriller, Mardaani.  Following the success of the film, the makers are now coming out with a sequel to it titled Mardaani 2. The cast and crew are on a month-long schedule in Rajasthan, bang in the middle of summer in the desert city. As for Rani, she has a lot of action-packed sequences to shoot during this schedule, and just shot for one chase sequence while it was a blazing 42 degrees!

A production source informs:

The temperature in Kota is over 40 degree now and in a few days, it will cross 43 degrees. It is an extremely difficult schedule, especially because we are shooting in the middle of the day during peak summer in Rajasthan. Most of the sequences are centred around Rani’s character’s investigation about the criminal. The chase sequence was shot on one of the hottest days in Kota.

Speaking further about the sequence, the source also mentioned that it was a lengthy one and that they wanted to wrap the shot in a single take, owing to the heat. They revealed that Rani does most scenes in one take and that this chase sequence wasn’t any different. They added that it was shot a couple of times anyway because Rani insisted it would be better to have variations of the shot.

The source also mentioned:

It was hot and we could see she was getting dehydrated, but she nailed each take. The shooting team is not used to this heat and Rani’s commitment really got the entire team going.

Rani will take her character from the prequel forward in Mardaani 2. Given the appreciation Tahir Raj Bhasin‘s character got for his negative role in the first film, there is a lot of anticipation about the villain in the sequel. The film marks the directorial debut of Gopi Puthran, the writer of  Mardaani. Produced by Aditya Chopra, this will be Rani’s next release after the critically acclaimed Hichki.
