Sakshi Tanwar, Mona Singh, Nidhi Singh and Palomi Ghosh in Mission Over Mars

There are a number of things that we, as Indians, are supremely proud of. India’s mission over Mars definitely tops this list alongside a few other accomplishments. With the news of Chandrayaan 2’s tilted landing on the moon doing the rounds, lately, we’ve been reading a lot about the space missions. And the more we read, the more we want to know about it. That’s exactly why I decided to binge-watch ALTBalaji’s new show, Mission Over Mars (M-O-M). And I am so glad I did so!

M-O-M is a fictional adaptation of India’s most successful Mars Orbiter Mission. Starring some celebrated actresses like Sakshi Tanwar, Mona Singh,Nidhi Singh, Palomi Ghosh and several others, this gripping story begins with Indian Space Agency’s (ISA) disappointment with the failure of Chandravimaan (mission to the moon). But that’s not what this series is about. The show traces the lives of the scientists who don’t lose hope and decide to make the unthinkable possible with their fortitude and zest.

The star cast wins us over almost instantly as they all have managed to deliver very realistic performances. There’s a certain beauty in being able to live the experiences of a bunch of on-screen characters like your own. Be it Sakshi Tanwar (Nandita Hariprasad), Mona Singh (Moushumi Ghosh), Nidhi Singh (Neetu Sinha) or Palomi Ghosh (Meghan Reddy) – all the ladies are absolutely brilliant in the series. Not only their professional lives, but even the personal lives of these four leading women have been showcased wonderfully. Major props to the makers for highlighting their flawed sides too, which is quite rare in such inspirational shows tbh!

While Nandita is level-headed when it comes to work, she’s a very nosy mother. Sakshi’s portrayal of both these characters is very convincing and even slightly endearing in parts. On the other hand, Mona has also done complete justice to the role of a fearless and stubborn Moushumi. Neetu and Meghan are also layered characters who are trying to juggle with their challenging careers and personal distress. Neetu wants to start a family, Meghan is struggling to find a partner. Both Nidhi and Palomi have played these roles to the T.

All the characters are quite relatable and likeable. And even the ones that aren’t likeable, you won’t be able to help but draw similarities between them and someone you know in real life. That’s how real they make you feel they are.

Also, when you have actors like Ashish Vidyarthi and Mohan Joshi among the cast, you know their seasoned performances are bound to take everything a notch higher.

The narrative definitely keeps us glued and thankfully, the makers don’t deviate from the main plot in order to make it too glossy. That’s what makes it a great watch! The visual effects and graphics in the show are extremely well done, apparently labored over a long period of time and certainly bring to life the gripping moments of the series. A perfect amalgamation of women empowerment, patriotism and conviction – this one’s an emotional roller-coaster that you don’t want to miss!

From this delightful series produced by Ekta Kapoor, we definitely learn one thing – how to mercilessly chase your dreams regardless of the hurdles you might have to face.

Interestingly, the story is all about women power and naturally, that resonates with the Team MissMalini girls as well as Malini’s Girl Tribe. So when the ALTBalaji team held a special screening of M-O-M, 5 lucky contest winners from our tribe got to catch the show. They also met Sakshi Tanwar and Ashish Vidyarthi at the event. In case you haven’t seen M-O-M yet, it’s streaming on ALTBalaji and Zee5 and is highly recommended. So binge away!
