When it comes to caring for our hair, we often turn to masks and serums. However, it’s equally important to keep your scalp healthy so that your strands can stay strong! When your scalp is out of balance, you can face issues such as dandruff, itchiness and clogged pores, which in turn can cause a lot of damage to your tresses. To prevent such problems from cropping up, here are a few things you can do!

1. Shampoo Often (But Not Too Often)

Between all the sweat and pollutants, it’s easy for our scalps to get clogged and greasy. Whilst dry shampoo is great at keeping oiliness at bay, it can irritate your scalp if it’s used too often. To keep the skin on your head clean, lather up with a shampoo at least twice a week. If you go hard at the gym or have spent too much time outdoors, you can wash your hair more frequently. However, using a shampoo on a daily basis can dry out your mane so be careful not to overdo it. In general, it’s best to use sulfate-free formulas as they are less harsh on your hair.

2. Exfoliate Weekly

Just like you exfoliate your face to buff away any dead cells, it’s essential to do the same to your scalp. Use a scalp brush or massage your head with a scrub once a week to get rid off any build-up. Try not to apply too much pressure or use your nails to rub in the product as this could cause micro-tears on your skin and lead to inflammation.

3. Choose The Right Treatment

If you are dealing with a particular issue, do your research and find a targeted treatment for your scalp. Formulas with tea tree oil and charcoal are great for detoxifying the skin and getting rid off flakes, whilst those with hyaluronic acid and argan oil provide relief from dry and tight scalps. Also, remember to always apply sunscreen on your scalp to protect it from sun damage!
