Anyone who knows me will know the fact that I am obsessed with nail art. Almost one-fourth of the Instagram handles I follow are all about nail art. From rainbow nails to skittles nail art, I love trying out new trends. However, the one thing I hate about nail polish, in general, is how easily it chips. Especially when it comes to gel nail polish. Every time I get nail polish, it chips within three to four days. That’s why I’ve done endless research on how you can prolong the life of your gel nails. So, if you’re wondering how you can do just that, here’s what you need to know:

1. Cut Down On Long Showers

As comforting and relaxing long showers are, they are not the best for your nails. The steam and prolonged water exposure can break the bond of your polish and cause lifting. So spend less time showering and if possible use warm temperature water.

2. Add Another Top Coat

When in doubt, add another coat. If the polish tends to peel off easily from your nails, then try adding a transparent top coat to make sure that the polish stays. However, make sure you don’t apply too many coats, thick layers tend to be more prone to peeling.

3. Fix Chips With Glitter

If at all your gel nail polish chips, don’t peel off the rest! Add some glitter nail polish to the chips, and that’ll fix it.

4. Resist The Urge To Pluck

It is super tempting to pluck the nail polish from your nails, but you should resist doing that! Not only do you waste the money you spent on your manicure, but you also damage your nail bed. So under no circumstances should you pluck gel nail polish.

5. Wear Gloves While Doing Chores

Chores like washing the dishes can expose your nails to water, and as I mentioned before, that can loosen the bond of your nail polish. So wear gloves to protect your manicure while you do your chores.
