Entering a new genre or space when it comes to acting is always a challenge, but for Karan Tacker, the challenge was what he found most thrilling when it came to Special OPS! Starting off with acting in television serials and hosting shows, Karan has come a long way as he is now all set to play a RAW agent in the web series directed by Neeraj Pandey.
In an exclusive chat with us, he spoke about how he got the role, and he has quite an interesting story to tell about his audition. Karan was actually on a holiday in Mussoorie when he got an audition call for this show.
I explained to the casting director that it will be very difficult for me to send him an audition clip because we were high up in the mountains with no network. But I tried to record a small clip. With almost no good lighting anywhere, I was forced to record it in the men’s washroom. I then drove down to the town in Mussoorie where there was WiFi and sent it to him. I had nothing on me, and it was so casual. But I am glad it all worked out.
My character Farooq is appointed by Kay Kay Menon’s character, Himmat Singh. He has been on the lookout for a terrorist for the last 19 years. I pave the way for his search and am the boots on the field to find this guy. I have never played anything like this before. I have primarily been in the romantic space in television. So, I am glad Neeraj Sir saw me in this part.
Karan adds how he had to chop a lot of weight during the course of the show because it stretches through 9 years of his life — from being a college student to heading the intelligence operation. He states that transitioning in terms of physical appearances was quite tough as they shot continuously.
Working with such an amazing cast is something I am so fortunate about. Kay Kay Menon is an amazing actor and the bond between my character and his on the show is very special.
Well, we are absolutely thrilled to see him kick some ass as the suave RAW agent on the show. Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the show also stars a great ensemble cast consisting of actors like Vinay Pathak, Sana Khan, Divya Dutta, Saiyami Kher, Sharad Kelkar, among others.
