To say that the year 2020 has a had rough start would be an understatement. This year we’ve witnessed Australian bushfires, the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and now a pandemic; and we’re only four months in! COVID-19 has affected the lives of people all around the world, and we’re all taking measures to flatten the curve and stop the spread of coronavirus. WHO and health ministries all around the world are encouraging people to self-isolate and practise social distancing. Another significant measure to slow the spread of COVID-19 is to wear face masks whenever you step out of your house.

In fact, as of today, wearing masks in public spaces has been made mandatory in Mumbai. Mumbai Municipal Commissioner, Praveen Pardeshi stated in a letter that people must wear standard masks that are available at the chemist or even homemade washable face masks can be worn while in public places. If you don’t want to stand in line at the chemist to purchase a face mask, then you can try making your own DIY face mask to slow the spread of COVID-19. Here’s how you can make your own DIY face mask:

Step 1

To make this DIY face mask you will need a few simple things—a large square cotton handkerchief and two hair ties.

Step 1

Step 2

Mark three lines in such a manner that you will be able to fold the handkerchief in three equal parts.

Step 2

Step 3

Fold the handkerchief on the dotted lines. After folding, the handkerchief should look like this.

Step 3

Step 4

Add the two hair ties on either side of the folded handkerchief.

Step 4

Step 5

Now take the “B” end of the handkerchief and open up the fold. Once it’s open, stuff the “A” end of the handkerchief inside the “B” fold.
