The first-ever Bollywood film was released over 100 years ago, and ever since then, Bollywood has been the most prominent fashion influencer in India. Sure, with changing times, our relationship with fashion and trends have come a long way. There are fashion bloggers who are shaping the way we dress, one Instagram post at a time. But, Bollywood movies and celebrities still hold the loftiest position in the Indian fashion game.

So if Deepika Padukone‘s midnight blue saree in the song Batameez Dil from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani inspired your farewell saree outfit, and when Rani Mukherjee danced to Koi Mil Gaya in Kuch Kuch Hota Hain, and you couldn’t stop drooling over her silver sequin dress, then why not seek fashion inspiration from Bollywood during the lockdown. The unique thing about Bollywood fashion is that everything is high-octane glamour, which means even when dressed down in PJs, our heroines look picture perfect. While that may be impossible and impractical to achieve, we can always seek loungewear inspiration from them.

As we are living in our PJs all day every day, here are some chic and comfy loungewear ideas from stylish Bollywood movies.

#1. Rani Mukherjee’s Red Silk Robe In Kuch Kuch Hota Hain

As Tina (Rani Mukherjee) is chilling in bed reading her murder mystery novel, Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) visits her to confess his love. In that scene, Rani is lounging in a maroon silk robe, with her perfectly placed high ponytail, almost as if she was expecting Rahul. The movie released in 1998 and even today the silk robe is stylish, which goes to prove that this is classic every girl can invest in, and they would get maximum use out of it.

#2. Madhuri Dixit‘s White Silk Maxi Dress From Dil Toh Pagal Hai

As the lead cast of the movie Dil Toh Pagal Hai celebrated Valentine’s day, like all single girls, Madhuri Dixit had a party of one, in her bedroom. She danced around in a white silk maxi dress that has lace trim around the neckline. A dress like this one, in 2020 is not just something to lounge in at home, but it can also be worn outside, thanks to slip dresses being a trend.

#3. Alia Bhatt‘s Sheer Look In Student Of The Year

Alia Bhatt became a style icon from her very first film. Her character in her debut movie Student Of The Year was of the popular girl Shanya whose style was also always on point. In the song Kukad Kamal Da, where all the girls in the hostel are having a celebratory dance about the arrival of a new good looking boy (strange, I know), Alia Bhatt danced in a sheer, baby doll style, top and shorts set.

#4. Sonam Kapoor‘s Tank Top And PJs In Aisha

Aisha has got to be one of the most stylish Bollywood movies, yet Sonam’s loungewear look in this one is the most relatable. In the scene where Abhay Deol surprises her with a visit in the middle of the night, she wore a blush pink tank top, which has typography on it. Statement tees are a big trend and instantly makes any basic top look cuter. She wore the top with a shrug, comfy, cropped PJs and furry slippers.

#5. Veere Di Wedding‘s Custom PJ Sets

The movie Veere Di Wedding was brimming with outfit inspo, including the loungewear. The lead protagonist of the film wore matching sets from luxury sleepwear brand Dandelion. My personal favourites are Kalindi‘s (Kareena Kapoor Khan) stationery print and star print PJ sets and Avni‘s (Sonam Kapoor) pink custom-made monotone set.

#6. Priyanka Chopra‘s Tank Top & Shorts In Dostana

Another iconic and super stylish character from Bollywood has to be Neha (Priyanka Chopra) from Dostana. While her styling in the movie was very Miami, her loungewear was somewhat relatable. She mostly lounges around the house in a fitted tank top paired with quirky printed shorts—a no-fail look, especially for summers.

#7. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Harem Pants & Long Tee In Jab We Met

A loungewear look that went onto become a massive trend was to wear your harem pants or salwar with a long tee. After Kareena wore her white salwar with a printed long tee in Jab We Met, women ditched their PJs for roomy, comfy salwars and paired them with not kurtas, but longline t-shirts for the night time.

#8. Sonam Kapoor’s Print-Clashing PJ Set In Khoobsurat

Of course, we had to mention Sonam Kapoor again, she is the OG fashionista of the industry after all. In the movie Khoobsurat, as she danced to the song Engine Ki Seeti in her PJ set, she wore a white polka tank top which she tied from the side. She aced the print-on-print trend by pairing her star printed tank top with bright pink leopard printed PJs; this is a combo I need ASAP!
