There’s a popular saying that goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” and we have all heard of it at some point or another. But have you ever paused to truly understand its meaning? We all look up to certain people who have achieved something and made something of themselves. What we often fail to remember and recognize is the journey that those individuals have endured to get to where they are. We often seem to forget that along with all the hard work and smaller victories, we are also a product of all the mistakes we’ve made and hardships we’ve had. With a million followers on Instagram Ranveer Allahbadia a.k.a. BeerBiceps has a similar story and so much to share about his journey. He is a much-loved influencer and also has his own podcast, #TheRanveerShow. We are sharing his journey of the past five years and how he came to where he is today!

2015: The Leap Of Faith

Exactly 5 years ago, back in 2015, Ranveer Allahbadia, took the decision as a young, 22-year-old Engineering graduate to enter the big and scary world of social media. With little to no knowledge of videography, social media, or all that goes into building a business, the young boy has come a long way from where he started. However, his journey was not devoid of mistakes and loads of trouble. Over 5 years, he has made many mistakes and the consequences of the same have given him plenty of experience of all the hardships in the big, scary, real world.

5 Years Of  Mistakes And Learnings

1. The Dangers Of Comparison

Like most of us, whether we like to admit it or not, Ranveer began his journey with the intention of gaining popularity and wealth. What we often don’t seem to realize is that these materialistic wishes only give us joy, when looked at relatively. Essentially, it is viewed as “I want to be more popular than him” or “I want the car that she has”. In simple words, one is happy only when one feels likes he is doing better than somebody else. To place this precious happiness of yours on somebody else can be extremely dangerous. Ranveer talks about not giving so much importance to the number of followers you have or how much richer you are than somebody else. He, in fact, goes on to call this a “toxic mentality” that he finally learned to let go of by 2018. He found people in his life who taught him to view himself not as a comparison to anyone else and to try to better himself from who he was yesterday.

2. The Trust Game

Trust is a fickle thing. Life has different ways of guiding us. Through his career, Ranveer went against his own better judgment to trust people that took his kindness for naivete. A project that he spent 6 months working on, was essentially stolen from him and even though the project never took off, it taught Ranveer a valuable lesson. Sometimes we get desperate in our search of ways to make our dreams come true and often we get blinded by the blingy promises made by people. People who are ready to take advantage of you. It is important to take your time to evaluate your options and learn to say no to people that you don’t instantly feel comfortable with. Know that there will always be another way.

3. Practicality VS Kindness

We all face a constant battle between being practical and being what we believe is kind. Over time, Ranveer has had a great habit of delegating work and has pride in the people who work with him. However, there are times when people, as humans, make mistakes. There comes a time to evaluate the person after a mistake has been made. Ranveer beautifully puts across almost a mathematical formula to make such evaluations. He says that the only time a person may be asked to leave is when the employee repeats the same mistakes despite being corrected. This is the kind of person who is unwilling to grow and hence could pull down an entire team if not taken care of. Confrontation can be hard; firing people can be harder; however, for the overall health of the team, such decisions must be made.

4. Breaking Your Own Barriers And Meeting Your Own Expectations

David Icke once said, “The greatest prison people live in is the fear of what other people think”. One must learn to live their life on their own terms. People have expectations but the only ones that matter are your own. Ranveer talks about how people expected him to fail at every level of his career and how that simply didn’t matter because he believed in himself. May it be training people as a career, content creation, his fitness journey, or his podcast; he set goals for himself and formulated plans to achieve them successfully. At every point in life, there will be someone or the other waiting to pull you down. It is up to you to ensure that you keep going and achieving all you set out to achieve.

5. Letting Your Hard Work Speak For Itself

Lastly, it is important to know that hard work trumps everything. For anything you set out to achieve or anyone you aspire to become, trust that hard work is what will get you there. Not mere luck and not where you come from. In an episode of The Ranveer Show, Priyanka Chopra said, “Every time, you are defined by what you do next”. While talent, creativity, and intelligence do play a role, hard work is the most important. Don’t let haters bring you down and always remember that you are the only one responsible for all that you achieve. So work hard and take pride in the work you do.

These were some amazing lessons taught to us by Ranveer and his sheer honesty has been so refreshing! We have so much to learn from every single lesson. Remember that there is always scope to learn and grow!
