2020 was a year of huge losses to many including cinema lovers in Bollywood. In April 2020, we lost one of the most brilliant actors India could boast of – Irrfan Khan. Today is the actor’s 54th birth anniversary and his eldest son Babil Khan took to his Instagram to remember his dad’s birthday for the first time according to his note. Babil shared a sweet video of Irrfan, his mother Sutapa Sikdar, and younger brother Aayan Khan trying to face time him. In the caption, he penned down how his father never encouraged him to remember his birthday or remembered his because they celebrated every day with the same vigour. He also mentioned how Irrfan also never identified with contractual marriages. The note is truly heartwarming and of course a little bittersweet.

Here’s what it said:

You never identified with institutions such as contractual marriage and birthday celebrations. Perhaps, that is why I don’t remember anyone’s birthdays because you never remembered mine and never encouraged me to remember yours. It was just normal to us what seemed absurd from the outside, we celebrated every day (bringing personal experiential authenticity to the cliche). On the occasion, Mamma would have to remind us both; but this time I could not forget yours if I tried. It’s your birthday, Baba. Shoutout to all the technologically inept parents, notice that they did not finish saying that they miss me.

You might be gone, but never forgotten. The actor passed away after battling a neuroendocrine tumor for two years.
