Rebecca Ferguson joined the Mission Impossible series in McQuarrie’s first Mission as director and soon cemented her character Ilsa Faust as an integral part of the franchise. The connection between her and Tom Cruise‘s character, Ethan only grew stronger over time and became more genuine. She also mentions how she did not want the bond to be just a typical love interest.

As for her role alongside Ethan, she also added, “For years we’ve talked about the relationship between them because it’s so complex. The bond between these two people has been born of trauma and chaos – these are emotions that go beyond any form of a love affair or kinship. Ilsa and Ethan have this pure urge to protect and support [each other], but also to have their own rights, to be right in their own ways. It’s a fascinating dynamic to play.”

She also mentions how out of the three movies that she has starred in so far, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning has seen her pull off her most impactful action sequences. The actress also added, “What’s the point in doing a Mission movie if you’re not going to do the odd stunt? I think one of the reasons why Mission is such a love of my life is the training. It’s not knowing what I’m in for in the next film.” It is true though, you never know what is going to be expected of your character on set a specific day, and I guess that is what keeps you going.
