The 2016 crime drama film ‘Udta Punjab’ starred an ensemble cast of Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh. The Hindi-language film revolved around drug abuse by the youth population in the state of Punjab and shed light on various issues surrounding it. An interesting fact about the film is that Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khatter worked as an assistant director on the film, and now the ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ actor has revealed why he didn’t want Ishaan to be a part of the film. In conversation with Neha Dhupia on her talk show ‘No Filter Neha’, Shahid Kapoor revealed why he was apprehensive about brother Ishaan Khatter working as an AD on ‘Udta Punjab’. “I didn’t want him to be on ‘Udta Punjab’. I was playing a cocaine addict. I don’t even know what it is like to have a drink so this was the most challenging film that I was doing and I don’t know if I’ll get the character right. And I don’t want the baggage of having my brother because when your younger brother is an AD, you know your one eye is there. Theek hai kya, khaana kha raha hai? You don’t want to show him that you’re there,” Shahid Kapoor shared.

The ‘Jab We Met’ actor was also asked if there was a fear of bias, considering Ishaan was the brother of the film’s lead actor, to which he replied, “I wouldn’t want my elder brother or my father to make me feel that I need to be given special treatment when I want to be included in the team. That’s the worst thing anybody could do to you because then the whole team is looking at you ke ache wo uska bhai hai. You want to be included, you want to be on the same plane, so you get that.”
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, ‘Udta Punjab’ was a commercial success, and the social drama film received widespread critical praise for its direction, screenplay, story, music, and most importantly, the performances of the cast.
