Robert Downey Jr., who won his first ever Oscar at the recently held 96th Academy Awards for best supporting actor for his role in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, was previously nominated for Oscars in 1993 and 2009 but didn’t win both times. The ‘Iron Man’ actor, in an interview, opened up about his first Oscar loss and how his father reacted to it. Here’s what Robert Downey Jr. had to say…

In conversation with People, Robert Downey Jr. reflected on not winning an Oscar for playing Charlie Chaplin in the 1992 film ‘Chaplin’. “It’s crazy that Al Pacino, one of my favourite human beings on earth, presented Best Picture. And it’s also crazy that, I think, deservedly he won the first time I was nominated (in 1993 for ‘Chaplin’), for ‘Scent of a Woman’… Senior went to his grave going, ‘(You) got robbed for Chaplin.’ He wouldn’t say he really thought any of my other movies were very good or even that he thought ‘Chaplin’ was any good, but he did know that I got robbed… I think that he would feel that justice was done and that he can rest. But the problem is, he never cared about any of this s*** anyway,” Robert Downey Jr. shared.

Having previously been nominated at the Oscars for ‘Chaplin’ in 1993 for best actor and ‘Tropic Thunder’ in 2009 for best supporting actor, Robert Downey Jr.’s latest victory is very well deserved and long overdue. This was his third attempt at the Oscars, and the ‘Oppenheimer’ actor rightfully bagged the honor, marking a significant milestone in his spectacular career.
