John Abraham‘s Madras Cafe has been well-received by critics, but unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the film in Chennai. Tamil activists have been protesting over the film’s release, saying that it showcased the LTTE as terrorists. And although theatres are technically allowed to release both the Hindi and Tamil versions of the film (it has been passed by the Censor Board), they’re all choosing not to, fearing the ire of protesters. This has upset John Abraham, who tweeted on the day of the film’s release saying that freedom of expression has been lost, and even asked the question: “Are we democratic?”

John had earlier released a statement saying that there is nothing objectionable about Madras Cafe, and claimed that they had only made an honest film. Even now, he stands behind his project, and has urged Chennai to accept the movie, saying that “it is a credible film made with a lot of heart and it gives audiences something novel to be entertained about.”

Unfortunately, it looks like the fate of Madras Cafe in Chennai is still up in the air. However, in Mumbai, the actor/producer attended a screening of his film at Light Box. Have a look at pictures:
