20 Trends We Absolutely Loved In 2015

20 trends that we loved in 2015

2015 gave us a ton of trends. We’ve captured 20 trends that we love, including, boyfriend jeans, culottes, joggers, off-shoulder tops and literally everything high waisted. BandraRoad’s mission is to bring you the best in style trends, from street style to alternative trends, peppered with a bit of fun mainstream trends too. As we draw closer to the end of this year, here’s looking back at all the trends, BandraRoad along with our fashion girls, Pocket Stylist and KASH have given you.

Joggers

Jumping in Joggers and our customised Converse Sneaks.

I feel like every once in a while, fashion throws us a trend that’s a big thank you for putting up with the other not-so-great trends. And in 2015, the fashion community did just that, by introducing us to the joggers. It was love at first sight for us at BandraRoad. We told you how these pants were taking over the streets, and showed you how men can also rock this trend. Pocket Stylist gave women a tutorial on ways to style these comfy pants, no matter where you go. With a relaxed fit, drawstring/elastic waists, cuffed bottoms, and the versatility to be dressed up or down, the jogger IS your next best friend and a must have staple in your wardrobe in 2016.  BandraRoad calls this the ‘Jogger Life,’ and brings you our very own, original collection of joggers in early 2016 (stay tuned and definitely send us a message if you want to be one of the first to know when we launch – @BandraRoad)

Retro Denims

3 ways to style your flared denims

Flared denims made a comeback this summer!  We love retro denims because they are easy to style and they make your legs seem longer.  (Tip: Pair with heels for a few freebie inches)  For more on this trend, check out our flared denim styling tips from BandraRoad and KASH.

The Kash Girl

90’s Choker

It’s great to see the ‘90s choker trend come back in 2015.  I first noticed these chokers as a kid in the ’90s.  It’s nostalgic and reminds me of childhood all over again, but now I get to pair them with more expensive clothes!  This accessory comes in many styles and can be worn with or without a pendant, depending on your taste or style statement.  Our very own KASH girl showed you how you can style these chokers like a pro.

Culottes and Wide Leg Pants

A pretty grey peasant top and a pair of dark grey culottes.

Is it a pant? A skirt?  No… They’re culottes! 2015 was all about culottes and wide leg pants, and we jumped on the trend-wagon immediately. These pants were stars on and off the international runway.  Culottes are comfortable, easy to style and look good on every body type. Earlier in the year, we showed you 10 inspirations on how to style Culottes. Our own Pocket Stylist, schooled you on the cutest tops to work these pants.

Pocket Stylist schools you on what tops work the best with culottes.

Cut-Off Tanks

Tank tops have taken a sexy turn and we love it.

Some trends come into the fashion world and never leave. Cut-off tanks are the perfect example. We love these tanks and have shown you how they can be your bra’s new BFF. When you can’t think of what to pair your denims with, the cut-off tank is your best friend.  They are easily available on the streets or at your favourite store (and coming soon by BandraRoad!).

Statement Tee’s

Esha Gupta’s statement tee and checked pants.

Not since Frankie told us to ‘relax’ in the 80’s has there been such a huge affinity to wearing your words on your chest. 2015 has been all about slogan tee’s. Seen on the runway from the likes of Jeremy Scott, Kenzo and Alexander Wang this trend is all about having fun, sending a message, or giving the finger to ‘The Establishment.’  Here are some of our favourite slogan tee inspirations.  What are some of your favourite slogans tee’s from this past year?  (Stay tuned to BandraRoad, as we’ll be bringing you some of our favourite slogan tee’s as part of our first collection in early 2016!)

The Kimono Cover-up

Deepika Padukone in a pair ripped jeans, a white tee and striped cape cover-up.

Is it a cape or is it a robe?? Well….it’s actually a mix of both, and fashionistas call it the Kimono. We like to think of these Kimonos as superhero capes.  Imagine the Kimono-Cape that transforms you into a superhero who can wear 20-inch heels, drink without getting hangovers, sing better than Beyonce, ride motorcycles through the desert, and have great hair. Well, it’s a fantasy world we live in, but we like to indulge. The Kimono is easy to wear and Pocket Stylist has shown you how style it.

The Wrap and Tuck

The Wrap and Tuck Styling Hack which is super easy and looks amazing.

We all knew about the half tuck, for your t-shirts and shirts. But 2015 brought the wrap and tuck, which is pretty ingenious. We showed you how to wrap and tuck your shirt and how to style this creative trend. Working with oversized shirts is your best bet to achieve this look.

Oversized…Everything

BandraRoad loves the oversized trend. We have even given you 5 reasons why bigger is better. When done right, the oversized look can be chic and flattering. You need to keep in mind some things, like staying fitted by balancing the look (e.g. skinnies styled with baggy sweater or boyfriend jeans worn with a fitted top)

Statement Neck Pieces

Statement neck pieces and wrist bands

If you ask me, the best way to revamp an outfit is by adding a little flair. By ‘flair,’ we mean accessories, like Statement neck pieces. Pocket Stylist showed you how big, chunky, yet stylish neck pieces can put you in the spotlight.

Sneakers a.k.a. Kicks or Trainers

BandraRoad tries of the shoes that made the street

The wear-sneakers-on-anything trend exploded onto the fashion scene this Spring. Brands (like Converse, New Balance, and Adidas), fashion bloggers and street style pro’s from across the globe jumped on board the trend! As you’ve seen over the year, BandraRoad has mad love for sneakers, and we’ve shown you 10 fool proof ways to style them with dresses and skirts. Brands are coming out with more and more options each day.  We still prefer our favourite, iconic sneakers that will never go out of style and will always keep you looking classy.  What are your favourite Kicks?  Let us know (#BandraRoad or @BandraRoad)

Off – Shoulder a.k.a The Cold Shoulder

You can opt for fun statement neck pieces or earrings. We love bare shoulders too, they adds sexiness to your look.

One of the trends that really stood out this summer was the off-shoulder. These tops are perfect for the boho chic girl in you.   The Cold Shoulder look is easy to wear and perfect for those hot summer days.  BandraRoad showed you how to rock the cold shoulder trend, and Pocket Stylist gave you 3 fresh ways to style this trend.

The Party Bra

Okay, forget everything you ever knew about bras and their basic function as undergarments or support. Now, think of them as the new fashion trend! In 2015, the exposed bra phenomenon has been championed by models, celebrities, music festival goers, and many more. The exposed bra is most often seen under cut-off tanks or as a layered piece under off shoulder or loose tops.  The party bra, takes this phenomenon further and also doubles as the saviour for backless party tops – making women feel secure and sexy (see Pocket Stylist tips for saving our party outfits).   Don’t have a party bra?  It’s time to invest in a couple.

Bandana Prints

You definitely will be the belle at the beach in this bandana cover-up (Pic: @miskemonos on Instagram)

The bandana trend became popular in 2014 when models and street style stars sported bandana headbands. Designers quickly jumped on the bandwagon to design clothing around this historic print. We were obsessed about these prints this past year and showed you how you could wear them.

Cape Tops

The Kash Girl

It’s a tank top and a cape all in one, what else does a fashion girl need. These tops are great when paired with shorts or a skirt. They cover up the rear and keep those legs in focus. Our fashion girls, Pocket Stylist and KASH showed you, how you could pull off this trend.

Crop Tops

Alia Bhatt

You either hate them or love them.  Crop tops were everywhere this year, from the traditional skin baring versions to the more modest versions.  We love all versions, but BandraRoad showed you ways real women can rock this trend and look super chic while doing so…and Pocket Stylist showed you how to crop-it-up at work.  So, the question is…do you crop or not?  What is your take?

The Fringe

This year brought back the fringe in coats, bags, shoes, wallets and much more.  Fringe has always been big at music festivals, where you can let your inner bohemian run free. But our Pocket Stylist showed you different ways to wear fringe when you’re not at a festival.

Gladiator Shoes

The Kash Girl

If all roads lead to Rome, then all summer shoe trends lead to the gladiator sandal. Spring-Summer 2015 brought back these beauties, and our KASH girl showed you how to style these sandals from day to night. They have been around for a while, but this year the catwalks literally exploded with all kinds of gladiators: dark and light, tall and short, suede and leather, heeled and flat.

Every girl needs a pair of gladiator sandals in her wardrobe, they are so easy to style and perfect for the summer

The Bare Back

5 Open back outfits to make your day on the street worth your while! (Pic: @focus_stuff_carolinaf on Instagram)

Fashion does not want us to turn our backs on this next trend.  The Bare Back look is one of the steamiest fashion trends this year.  This trend can be sexy, liberating, and certainly will make the boys turn their heads when you walk by.  To see more on this trend, check out post – 5 street style approved looks, that would put your back in the spotlight.

Athleisure

Pop of colour never hurt nobody, especially if played in a sporty vibe (Pic: @chris_perceval on Instagram)

If you’ve not heard of athleisure, you must have been trekking in the Himalayas all year. While athletic wear has crept in and out of fashion for quite some time, the newly-minted athleisure trend is a true game-changer. It’s the perfect middle ground between style and leisure.  We’re big fans of this trend, and you can check out more on this trend here, here and here.

Athletic wear everyday all day

Wow!! 2015 has been full of fun and sometimes nostalgic trends. As we all know, fashion is personal, and everyone has different taste.  We’ve tried to show you some of our favourites this year.  We hope that you have enjoyed this end of the year run down, and we look forward to bringing you all the cool trends in 2016.  What trends do you predict will grace the streets and runways of 2016?
