8 Times 2000’s Pop Music Gave Us Major #SquadGoals

Meg DSouza

I really can’t think of a better way to spend my day than chilling and cosying up with my squad of friends. For me, my crew is always the first to know about my latest amazing discovery – whether it’s a new restaurant or watering hole, a new movie or TV series, a new rock song or band – I’ll promptly copy paste and share the link to my latest ‘like’. Plus, few things are more satisfying than getting the stamp of approval from them.

I firmly believe music is best enjoyed in good company and because it’s Friendship Day today, we thought we’d list out 8 times our favourite pop-stars gave us major #SquadGoals since #SquadGoals became a thing. Turns out these tunes make a really fun playlist as well, so scroll through, press play and enjoy with your besties:

I’m The One
by DJ Khaled featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne

Holy product placement and a star cast of the top rappers, with the unmissable, Biebs, having a jolly time at a pool party definitely give me some level of FOMO. It’s just another catchy pop tune from DJ Khaled, who’s literally a pop culture icon atm, with his several Top Ten Hits and social media success, that’ll leave you and your crew singing along to the hook in no time!

Feels
by Calvin Harris featuring Pharrell, Katy Perry and Big Sean

This tune hit us right in feelz the moment we heard it. The hit-making DJ, with the help of a couple of his coolest pals, create a hit tune with a dreamy dessert beach themed video that’s hella colourful and catchy. I like it so much I wish I somehow had a reason to be on this set – as one of those palm trees or one of Katy’s flowers or that boat maybe? Or maybe just a random fly on wall… I’d go for that too!

Bad Blood
by Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar

More than the song it’s the video that gives the pop culture freak in me the chills! Of course Tay-tay’s going to get everyone from her infamous Girl Squad to come together to make this fiesty Grammy Award winning piece. Here’s the INSANE cast in order of appearance: Selena Gomez, Kendrick Lamar, Lena Dunham, Hailee Steinfeld, Serayah, Gigi Hadid, Ellie Goulding, Martha Hunt, Cara Delevingne, Zendaya, Hayley Williams, Lily Aldridge, Karlie Kloss, Jessica Alba, Ellen Pompeo, Mariska Haritay and Cindy freaking Crawford! Phew…

Waterfalls
by Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani

When the four judges from American reality show, The Voice, come together, you better believe it’s going to sound good! There’s so much genuine chemistry between these pop music stalwarths, it makes me want to be a part of this jam session. Plus any kid of the 90’s has got to dig this cult tune by girl group, TLC, there’s so much I can’t help but love here.

Lady Marmalade
by Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, Pink and Missy Elliot

There’s so much #GirlPower in this movie soundtrack remake of the 1974 soul tune, it’s almost infectious! This is my guilty pleasure and I know I’m not the only one who’s dreamt of a slumber party-ing with this crew. Which begs me to ask – “Where’s all mah soul sistas…. Lemme hear ya’ll flow sistas..”

Know No Better
by Major Lazer featuring Travis Scott, Quavo and Camila Cabello

Basically anything this EDM trio of producers and beat masters does gives us major squad goals. Their latest release is another hit featuring three stars of the current pop and hip hop scene. I’m personally really digging the video, which is available in this #GeekChic interactive format – click here to switch between the dream and reality storylines potrayed in the video above.

Bang Bang
by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj

This is another track featuring a trio of fierce girls with big voices that makes me want to sing aloud and have a good ol’ fashioned shake and shimmy with my girlfriends. From all the live on TV performances and interviews I’ve seen of these three, it seems as if there’s some real #GirlLove and admiration that’s super inspiring.

Make Some Noise
by Beastie Boys

This video that makes me really happy everytime I see it. Not only because it’s by one of my all-time favourite rap groups but also because this makes for my favourite party game – “Spot The Celebrity”. This video features, quite possibly, THE most star studded cast of all time with Seth Rogan, Elijah Wood and comic Danny McBride portraying younger versions of the rap trio. Keep watching and you’ll spot a whole bunch of Hollywood stars like Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Amy Poehler, Chloe Sevigny, Maya Rudolph, Malin Akerman and Orlando Bloom, to name just a few.

And with that…
