Deepika Padukone managed to impress us when she played the Rajput queen Padmavati in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. The film which also starred Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, released at the start of the year and managed to win our hearts despite the controversy. A gangster drama directed by Vishal Bharadwaj was on the cards for the actress, but due to co-star Irrfan Khan’s health issues, the film is put on hold. Ever since then, the audience is looking forward to Dippy’s next project.
A recent report in Deccan Chronicle suggested that the right script hasn’t come Deepika’s way. A source told the daily,
Her back/neck problem is being properly attended to and she will be fine soon. As for marriage plans, they in no way impinge on her career. The reason Deepika is not signing anything new is that of the quality of roles coming her way. They are all big-banner films with top heroes. But nothing is even remotely as author-backed or inspiring as Padmaavat. At this stage in her career, Deepika is no more content playing the conventional leading lady. It has to be a script that offers her as much to do as the male protagonist.
The source further added that the remuneration offered to her isn’t equal to her male co-stars.
She has gone on-record to claim she was paid more than the leading man in Padmaavat. Big banners like Yash Raj Films and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions are not willing to pay her that kind of money.
We hope a great script comes her way so that we can witness Deepika’s reign on the 70 mm, yet again!
