It’s been 9 years since we were introduced to Rancho, Farhan, and Raju. Yup, it’s just been that long since the blockbuster 3 Idiots hit the screens. Can you believe it? Wouldn’t you want to know what the characters might be up to now? Well, your wish has been granted, because Rajkumar Hirani just confirmed that he is working on a sequel that will feature R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Speaking to Mid Day, Raju Hirani revealed that he had started writing the script for 3 Idiots part 2 a few days ago.
I definitely want to make a sequel to 3 Idiots. In fact, Abhijat [Joshi, writer] and I started writing something a few days ago. But it’s still in the initial stage and we will take a fair amount of time to develop the script.
Long back, even Aamir Khan had expressed his interest in taking the story of the three friends forward.
But a source close to the development revealed that, even though the sequel might be in works, it will take quite a lot of time to reach the screens. After Sanju hits the theatres, Raju Hirani will turn to the third installment of the Munna Bhai series. Reportedly, the script for the same has been finalized and the filmmaker is eager to start working on it with Sanjay Dutt.
