This week the trailer of Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji released. The film which is directed by Om Raut also stars Kajol and Saif Ali Khan and has managed to impress the masses. Now a report in Midday stated that the film will be dubbed in Marathi so that it gets a wider release.

For a while now, Bollywood films have been prohibited to be dubbed in Marathi so that they do not eat into the business of Marathi films but this period drama will get an exception.

Amey Khopkar who heads MNS spoke to the tabloid and said,

We are proud of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s achievements along with his warriors. I hope the film is dubbed in as many as languages as possible so that the world can get to know about their achievements. Dubbing the film in Marathi will increase the audience in the state and across the country.

Trade analyst, Amol Mehra said that it is an unsaid rule in the industry.

The practice of not dubbing films in Marathi is the result of an unsaid understanding between the two industries to encourage the growth of regional films. But this is a welcome change. In all likelihood, the film will enjoy additional 500 screens.

Ajay Devgn further added,

It’s a privilege to share the story of a Maratha warrior in his mother tongue. We will dub the film in Marathi soon.

The tale of this unsung hero is worth watching on the 700 and we cannot wait for it.
