I’ll be honest, when I first heard that self-isolation would help prevent the spread of coronavirus, the little introvert voice in my head celebrated hard—staying in your room the whole day without having to interact with people? That’s my ideal way to spend any given day TBH. However, one thing that’s been bothering me is the fact that I can’t work out at my gym. The one hour I spend at the gym not only helps me feel healthy, but it’s also therapeutic. Like anything else, I found the solution to the internet—online workouts.

Self-isolation can make you feel a little blue, and it’s essential to try and do the activities of your daily routine at home. It’s proven fact that exercise can boost your mood by stimulating the release of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. So, even if the gyms are closed, make sure you get in your daily exercise with these different types of online workouts. There’s something for everyone so no excuses!

1. Bodyweight Cardio

Fitness Blender is one of my go-to fitness YouTube channels. They have all kinds of workouts, but the best ones IMHO are the bodyweight cardio workouts. These online workouts don’t involve any equipment, they get your heart rate going, and they’re an excellent substitute for running on a treadmill or working out on a cross-trainer.

2. Pop Pilates

Pop Pilates is hands down the most fun workout out there! The trainer, Cassey Ho, is so energetic and motivating that you feel like giving your best. This online workout is known for fun exercises choreographed to the latest pop songs. So doing this workout is like having a fun workout party at your home. You should definitely give this a try!

3. Yoga Flow

If yoga is your workout preference, then I have good news for you, there a ton of yoga flows that you can find on YouTube. BohoBeautiful is my favourite yoga channel since it has yoga flows ranging from all types of intensities. So whether you want to unwind with some light stretches or work your muscles with an advance workout, this channel has it all!

4. Kickboxing

If you haven’t tried kickboxing yet, I highly encourage you to give it a try. This online workout will help you tone your arms, legs and abs. It also enables you to get in a good cardio sesh and burn calories.

5. Zumba High Intensity

Dancing to loud music and working out at the same time? Yes, please! If you want to have a mini dance party in your living room, then try out a high-intensity Zumba workout.

6. Ballet Barre

When I first tried a ballet barre class, I went into it thinking that it would be super simple. However, I was in for a surprise because 10 minutes into the class, my muscles were on fire! You should definitely give this online workout a try, it’s a unique experience, to say the least.

7. No Equipment Functional Workout

Since access to gym equipment is not possible, functional workouts are the best alternative. It involves moves like jumping squats, lunges and mountain climbers. This online workout will leave you breathless, and your muscles worked.
