Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer Brahmastra, has been in the news for a very long time now. The three part, sci-fi film, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Karan Johar and Fox Star Studios was set to first release in Christmas of 2016.

But the director and the makers decided they needed more time to round off the script and to work on the VFX and animation in the film. It was then pushed to 2019 and then to December 4th 2020, But seems like it’s set to be further postponed for a later date — this time owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Latest news is that Karan Johar was approached with an offer to release Brahmastra on OTT directly like a lot of other big-budget films are opting to do until the theatres open up completely. But, reports suggest that KJo declined the offer and is keen on releasing the film theatrically.

A report in Mid-Day quotes a source as saying that Disney+ Hotstar had approached Fox Star Studios, asking if they can premiere Brahmastra directly on OTT. Given it is a much-awaited film, Disney+ Hotstar could see record streams on their platform if the deal works out.

But doesn’t seem like KJo likes that idea too much. The source that he ( Karan Johar) hasn’t shown interest in it, and believes that “the VFX heavy, grand film would be best enjoyed in cinemas.”

Speaking about the sequels of the film, the publication quotes the source as saying that the makers are concentrating on completing the first part for now, and are set to finish the shoot by this month end. Post that, they will work on the post-production and get the film ready for release.

Well, I sure am super excited to catch all the magic that Brahmastra brings to the big screen and can’t wait for it! What about you guys?
