After a lot of ranting, whining and whimpering, 2020 has finally come to an end. Things may still not be okay but the year that it all started is finally in the past and that’s a mood uplifter in itself! Most of the abnormalities of 2020 continue to make their way in 2021 but there’s also few good things that we foresee entering the new year from the past (in the sartorial department to give you a little hint). Comfort, functionality and versatility were big hits last year, along with a little zinc by ways of prints and colours. And now as we look back at the trends that took centerstage, here’s 7 of them that’ll define fashion this year, as well. Or at least for the most part.

1. Tie-Dye

The lockdown meant one thing: experimenting with food and fashion. And there came all the rage around tie and dye (and Dalgona and banana bread). Injecting a burst of colour into our wardrobes were these colourful, psychedelic prints that made it big in the loungewear department. Ananya Panday and Kiara Advani‘s latest looks will set the record straight on why no one can’t get enough of this trend!

2. Colour-blocking

Colours have a way of really playing with our moods. So including more and more fresh and bright hues in our outfits is not just stylish but also mood-enhancing. Or at least, that’s what I’d like to think so. Summing up just how popular tone-on-tone dressing became in 2020 would be impossible so here’s Neha Dhupia and Sunny Leone‘s most recent looks proving to you the fuss around colour-blocking. Especially by celebrities.

3. Oversized clothing

Oversized silhouettes allow you to style your clothes in a myriad of chic and outrageously-cool ways. All while retaining the comfort factor. Although the rage around oversized clothing has been around for longer than the whole of last year, this style is not going away anytime soon. So if you’re not already on board with it, it’s time you do! Let Malaika Arora and Nimrat Kaur show you why you need to.

4. Athleisure

When all the gyms and other fitness centres shut back in March, what was all the workout-wear supposed to do? Obviously make it’s way into at-home outfits. And then gradually everyday-wear and then airport looks. 2020 was truly the year for athleisure to get the spotlight it deserves. Make it sporty, risqué or chill, here’s how Disha Patani, Manushi Chillar and Janhvi Kapoor were the latest celebrities to sport the much-loved trend.

5. Monochrome

There’s colour-blocking at one end of the spectrum and then there’s dressing in a single colour. Or in several hues of it. But equally stunning. And super sophisticated. Let the leading ladies of Bollywood show you why monochromatic dressing has a special spot for itself even in 2021.

6. Sweats

The need for comfort in fashion was truly brought to light in 2020 with our beds and couches being the place we spent most of our time. One can live, breathe, eat and sleep in, in sweatshirts or sweat-sets. Their comfort is on a level only pyjamas can match and them entering 2021 is no surprise, whatsoever. In fact, Kriti Sanon, Parineeti Chopra and Janhvi Kapoor entered the new year with this trend!

7. Printed party dresses

Yes, there was a spot for party-dressing even in 2020 and it’s got one even in 2021. Mini dresses, cocktail dresses, breezy numbers or bodycon silhouettes, most party dresses came with fun prints.    Vaani Kapoor and Nushrratt Bharuccha‘s NYE outfits are the perfect examples to show you why we hope this trend only gets more popular this year.
