Most of the time, we decide to make healthy food choices and switch to the trendy and latest Instagrammable food options. Healthy living has become more about trendy living, no? Hopping on to a healthy life can be a tough nut to crack and people often confuse healthy food with fancy food but it is not always the same! The main reason a food item needs to be on your plate is its constituents and how much it helps your body, otherwise, it should not warrant space on your plate. The toxic part of the food industry is that it tricks you into believing that what you are eating is healthy but it actually is the opposite. Many food items hold a very strong pretense of being healthy foods but are they really good for you?

Foods That Look Healthy But Aren’t Actually Healthy

1. Salad Dressing

Salad dressing always seemed to be the tastier, healthier option to make an addition to your boring salads but the high content of salt, sugar, fructose, corn syrup and additives make it unhealthy. The high contents of sugar in the low-fat salad dressings make them just as bad as their fatty counterparts. The addition of a dressing kills the purpose of your salad.

2. Granola

Granola seems like the healthiest munchie but it is usually made with high amounts of sugar, butter and vegetable oil. Granola from different sources and brands switch up their contents adding or reducing the health factor. Depending on what you consume, your calories intake changes with each serving. Granola is bait for healthy food alternatives.

3. Veggie Chips

If something comes out in chip form, you must know it is not good for you—Potato or not! Chips have always had a bad reputation but well, it doesn’t do you any good. The highly salted crisps increase your daily sodium intake and the thinly chopped slices hardly contain any nutrients that can help you sustain or add any value to your daily diet.

4. Yoghurt

Yoghurt is literally considered a superfood that helps you keep your gut health in check and also enhances weight loss but flavoured yoghurt contains an unreasonable amount of preservatives, artificial colours and sugar. Most of the time, yoghurt can be as bad as ice cream and not worse. No matter how everyone you see who is the flagbearer of making you believe that yoghurt is the perfect snack, don’t get fooled.

5. Coconut Water

Coconut water is the most revitalizing drink, it can refresh you, keep you hydrated and also has several beauty secrets that make your skin glow. But too much of it can be harmful due to a high amount of potassium which can ultimately affect your kidneys. Coconut water is also not the safest drink to consume a couple of weeks after surgery because it lowers blood pressure.

6. Oatmeal

Oatmeal proves to be one of the healthiest and most popular superfoods which is the perfect breakfast option. We cannot ignore the fact that it facilitates weight loss and keeps your health intact but that depends on the purchase you made. Store bought flavoured oat options are the worst pick with regards to additives, food colour and artificial flavouring. Before making a purchase, be certain of what you want and whether you are getting that out of your purchase.
