Released in 2009, 3 Idiots was not just a film, but a philosophy that changed the way people viewed education, careers, and life itself. Now, 16 years later, a sequel to this iconic film, 3 Idiots 2, is in the works. According to reports, Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi will reunite, and Rajkumar Hirani will once again be at the helm as director.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, the script for 3 Idiots 2 has been finalised, and the makers are very excited about the project. Filming is expected to begin in the second half of 2026. This time, the story will pick up where the first part left off. Rancho, Farhan, and Raju will meet again after almost 15 years, and a new chapter in their lives will be depicted.
The reports also suggest that the film will retain the nostalgic feel of the original, but the story will move forward in a contemporary setting. The characters have grown older, their responsibilities have changed, and so has their perspective. This transformation will be showcased in the film.

However, Sharman Joshi recently stated in an interview that he hasn’t received any official confirmation yet. He also mentioned that there have been several rumours about a sequel in the past, which later turned out to be related to advertising campaigns. But this time, the hopes are higher because, according to reports, Rajkumar Hirani has actually worked on the story.

Besides Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi, 3 Idiots also featured actors like Boman Irani, Mona Singh, and Omi Vaidya. The film remains one of the most beloved films to this day.
It will be interesting to see if 3 Idiots 2 can touch people’s hearts in the same way the first film did. For now, fans are eagerly awaiting the day when these three friends will be seen together on the big screen once again.
