As kids, a mirage would often mean an oasis in a desert or an island in the middle of the sea that everyone was introduced to most likely in cartoons that were watched on the Television. As years passed, the meaning of mirage changed but the feeling still was the same. ‘Dunki‘ is set heavily on a plot of a mirage of ‘England Dreams’ that promises a better life in a world on the other side, with little knowledge of harsh realities and struggles that also await. The movie stars Taapsee Pannu (Manu), Shah Rukh Khan (Hardy), Vikram Kochhar (Buggu), Anil Grover (Balli), Boman Irani (Gulati) and Vicky Kaushal (Sukhee) in a special appearance.
Right from the first frame to the last, Rajkumar Hirani’s interesting way of storytelling can be felt. Shah Rukh Khan as ‘Hardy’ ensures that his charm fills up the screen, but the actor also showcases with much finesse Hardy’s patriotism, love for Manu and the dedication to make the chaar ullu de pathe‘s dreams come to fruition, with the sad truth of his own dreams remaining unfulfilled. Taapsee Pannu wonderfully makes the audience laugh and cry and feel every emotion that ‘Manu’ does quite well. Anil Grover and Vikram Kochhar light up the screens with their heartwarming performances. Vicky Kaushal though makes a special appearance manages to grab the attention and definitely puts forth a praiseworthy act in the movie, due to which ‘Sukhee’s character stayed with me till the very end of the movie.
Being the third release of Shah Rukh Khan in 2023, fans eagerly awaited for ‘Dunki’ to release. Whether the movie will create waves with the Box Office numbers, only time will tell, but the emotional roller coaster of a movie that ‘Dunki’ is, it sure does make for a delightful end to the year.
