As we sit back looking at 2022 in the last few days of December, a very important thing that comes to my mind is that what an amazing year it was for Bollywood. Not only did the big screens witness some amazing films, but quite a lot of interesting stories were also told in the OTT space. In fact, what I liked about the films that were solely released on digital platforms was that they were all stories that came from pure love and passion for cinema. Now when I look at the long list picking the best is difficult. Still…

Here are 10 of my favorite films from OTT platforms that I would want you to watch before this year ends…

1. Darlings

Of course, this Alia Bhatt starrer tops the list. I legit loved Darlings so much that I have seen it twice so far. The film also stars Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew, let me tell you each of them has delivered quite a brilliant performance in this film. Directed by Jasmeet. K. Reen, this dark comedy about a Muslim housewife surviving an abusive marriage is entertaining, hard-hitting, and just the right story you need to blow your mind.

2. Gehraiyaan

While this film was released at the start of 2022, it still manages to hold a special place in my heart. The reason why I loved Gehraiyaan so much was that the film was high on emotions. To top that all, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, Dhairya Karwa, and Deepika Padukone‘s amazing performances made this film every bit of a story I would binge-watch. In fact, Ananya’s performance in the film was so good that my heart ached for her, I could relate to all the turmoil that Deepika went through. This story makes you feel every emotion that the characters feel, so do watch this one.

3. Freddy

The recently released psychological thriller Freddy, starring Kartik Aaryan and Alaya F literally sent chills down my spine. The film’s entire essence is in its climax, and the intensity of Kartik’s character can only be understood in those last few scenes. Having said that, Alaya impressed me a lot with her performance, but Kartik was so real with his character that he left me amazed hours after the film ended too.

4. Monica, O My Darling

This Rajkummar Rao, Radhika Apte, Huma Qureshi, Sikandar Kher, and Akanksha Ranjan Kapoor starrer is absolutely nail-biting. In fact, I recommend you watch this thriller on a complete holiday because the story has some interesting twists and turns that need your undivided attention. But yes this one is something you definitely need to watch for it is quite an amazing story.

5. Goodluck Jerry

This Janhvi Kapoor film will give you the good time you seek in quest of entertainment. It will make you laugh, and leave you stunned all at the same time. I absolutely loved how wonderfully Janhvi played this part, and yes, Deepak Dobriyal also cannot be missed in this one.

6. Jalsa

If someone really ruled the game on OTT it was Shefali Shah, be it shows or films, the actress delivered one good performance after the other. But Jalsa stands out because it had two power-packed performers sharing the screen, with a story so gripping. Also, starring Vidya Balan, this thriller’s story revolved around an accident that happens one fateful night that changes everything. The story is spine-chilling, but it is the performances that make it so impactful. This definitely needs to be on your watchlist.

7. A Thursday

Rarely has a film left me thinking so hard, but in A Thursday, Yami Gautam Dhar‘s performance changed my way to look at life. Decoding the idea of the storm beneath the calm with its story, Yami totally delivered an applause-worthy performance. The story is about a normal playgroup teacher who hijacks the school one fine day keeping little children at gunpoint to make her demands fulfilled. Your heart will go to her when you learn why she did what she did, so do watch this.

8. Dasvi

If I have to count one of the best films I watched on OTT, Dasvi would surely make the cut. Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Nimrit Kaur, and Yami Gautam Dhar, this film was quite entertaining. It was a story of an uneducated politician completing his 10th standard exams from jail, his life-changing journey in this is quite beautifully shown. Why this film is one of the best? Well, it inspired a lot many people with its story and it will leave you also quite touched.

9. Sharmaji Namkeen

Another sweet tale about man versus life, Sharmaji Namkeen highlights the existential crisis a man faces in the second innings of his life. It is the story about Sharmaji who has retired from his 9 to 5 job and has nothing to keep him busy in life anymore, sadly this freedom becomes a bane. What makes this film so special is that, the two actors played the same character. This is the last film of the legendary Rishi Kapoor, whose demise left the story half-baked and untold, but Paresh Rawal very graciously stepped into his shoes to bring out this film for the world. And let me tell you, not for a second will you feel that two different actors have played the same part, that’s why I recommend you to watch it.

10. Qala

Interestingly, when the trailer for Qala was released I thought this would just be another usual mother-daughter drama to watch. Gladly, the story taps into some deeper aspects, it is a story about a daughter, who is an aspiring singer, seeking validation from her domineering mother, but the way Triptii Dimri has exhibited those emotions is what will pinch your heart. At the same time, her triumph will make you smile. I was even in awe of Babil Khan who delivered such effortless performance.

Watch It On: Netflix

Well, watching this complete list in the remaining days of 2022 will surely make you live the best parts of the year. And every story will totally leave you changed in one way or the other, so get streaming because little time is left.
